Bio
Character Name: Captain Jack Sparrow

Character Series: Pirates of the Caribbean Franchise

Character Appearance: Sparrow is a dark-complexioned male of middling age with a muttled Dublin accent. Built light and narrow, standing just shy of six feet tall, and marked by combat scars, burns (such as the oddly placed pirate brand "P" above his right wrist), gross open wounds, and a tattoo on his right forearm. He wears a red patterned linen bandana around the crown of his head and kohl eyeliner, the latter supposedly for better vision. The teeth, parti-gold and platinum; the breath, horrific. His hair is long and brassy, chestnut black; it's littered with braids, dreadlocks, coins, trinkets, beads, and an odd pigtail with a reindeer's shin bone tied up with it. Rather eclectic, since you've gotta swipe what you can while they're not looking, his baroque costume is quite elaborate, which he makes up for by wearing the same thing everyday: a tattered suit consisting of a blue waistcoat, sashed and belted over the waist, matching drop front breeches, an open-necked, unbleached cotton shirt with floofy sleeves, and bucket-top buff leather boots. Due in part to his sticky fingers, he's amassed quite a bit of mismatched man-jewelry and some cherished effects: an old brown leather tricorne, a vaguely mystical black tin compass, a sea service pistol, a dark blue justaucorps (i.e. fancy pirate jacket), and a baldrick that holds his crappy sabre.

Character Personality: Captain Jack Sparrow (accent on the "captain") is a drunken, whoring, criminally debauched confidence man. Inspite of his insane special effects, he's a sharp negotiant and strategist and has obviously above-average intelligence, which, it seems, is in inverse proportion to his physical strength and fighting ability. While gifted at his chosen profession, he’s extremely lazy and on the wisely craven side when it comes to violence, so he'll cheat and take shortcuts, won't fight if he can plot around it, and never hesitates to run the hell away when out-matched (or imagines he's in a hurry). He's a fan of his own legend, markets himself as a dark hearted villain of sorts, and likes to put on a show for passersby, having an affinity for leaving that lasting impression. Sparrow unwillingly sets himself apart from his peers in this ugly business with -- among other traits -- an honest streak. But despite his best and worst features, Jack can't be counted on for consistency. He's an inscrutable trickster, generally on his own side. He will, however, do the right thing if pressed, then spend the remainder of his life kicking himself for it.

Bio: (Spoiler Warning, Films I & II) Captain Jack Sparrow bargained with the demonic Davy Jones and accepted thirteen years as captain of his beloved ghost ship, the Black Pearl, in exchange for his immortal soul, including his immediate death and one-hundred years served aboard the Flying Dutchman come the end of his captaincy. Jack also obtained his mystic compass by this time, from a Ms. Tia Dalma -- voodoo priestess and scary ex-girlfriend -- and used said compass to seek out the legendary Chest of Cortes, which rests in a grotto of Isla de Muerta. Jack was privy to some tales of cursed gold, but for whatever reason, this didn't stop him from signing on a crew and seeking out the treasure. Unfortunately, that aforementioned honest streak comes around to bite him in the ass, when his first mate, Hector Barbossa, demands the crew has an equal share in the location of the treasure. Jack agrees, and having no more use of their captain, the crew mutinies on Jack and disposes of him by means of marooning. Left with a pistol, with which to commit suicide, Jack saves his single shot and instead plans on using it to revenge himself against Barbossa.

Fortunately for him, rumrunners stowed their illegal booze for safe keeping on that islet and Jack eventually bartered and sailed with them to freedom. He spent the next ten years shadowing Barbossa, forming a plan, and mustering forces in an attempt to reclaim the Pearl and dispose of it's vicious crew. Along the way, it becomes apparent the tales of the curse are true, which makes the crew immortal, but also desperate and in position to cut Jack a deal. At the same time, he runs into and makes enemies of the films heroes, and does his best to work everyone's predicaments to his own ends: The pirates want the blood of Bill Turner's child and don't know where to get it, Will and Elizabeth both want the other safe and sound, and Commodore Norrington wants the pirates dead and the lady to himself, and will use all of the firepower at his disposal to make it happen. Jack bargains to tell Barbossa the whereabouts of blood in exchange for the ship, planning a double-cross, which Will, Elizabeth, and Barbossa tandemly botch through their selfishly impulsive dumb-assery. Eventually, Jack gets everyone where he needs them, putting Will in place to end the curse and Barbossa to take a shot to the heart, while what's left of his old crew win a trip to meet John Law. Sadly, Jack's new crew seem to have mutinied on him as well and leave him to face the gallows. But Jack's overwhelming charm and -- let's face it -- pitiableness leads his newfound compatriots to spring him from the noose. His new crew reemerges to rescue him and return his ship, and ninety percent of the cast, even Norrington, thinks it's a nice gesture to just let Jack escape for his selfish, but coincidentally constructive, deeds. Jack journeys on to search for the heart of Davy Jones in an attempt to blackmail Jones and win back his ship and freedom.
